VICTORIA - Defence was the dominant theme for the UVic Vikes women's basketball team's 61-36 pre-season victory over the Lehtbridge Pronghorns.

Playing in their final pre-season game before conference play begins next weekend, the Vikes dominated from the onset and held the 'Horns to single-digit scoring totals in three quarters and just 27 percent shooting.
During one stretch in the first half, the Vikes defence pitched a shutout for a span of 10 minutes, while opening up a comfortable 16-point lead.

Kayla Dykstra# posted the game's scoring high with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Dykstra also posted 10 rebounds, leading a 40-24 advantage on the glass.

Lethbridge never had a player crack double digits, but were led by a seven-point effort from guard Becky Henninger. Lauren Taal and Stephanie Inman also added six each.
The Vikes' Canada West home opener is next Friday night versus the Calgary Dinos. Opening tip is 6 p.m. at McKinnon Gym.
