Vikes squeak by resilient Castaway-Wanderers

WALLACE FIELD – The UVic Vikes men's rugby team narrowly squeaked out a 32-31 victory over the Castaway-Wanderers, with the visitors knocking-on the ball just metres from the Vikes try line in the final phase of the match.

The Vikes showed their speed out wide and ran in five tries on the day to record the bonus-point victory. Canadian international #Bryn Keys# scored a team-high 12 points as he ran in a try and kicked two conversions and a penalty.

The Vikes found themselves down to 14 men after #Toni Wodzicki# was red-carded with 20 minutes to play. The visitors took advantage and scored 14 points to close the gap. Their come back came up agonizingly short, however, when in the final phase of the game they swung the ball out wide before knocking it on.

The Vikes now move to 2-1 on the season and are back in action on October 16 at Velox. Kick off versus the Valhallians is scheduled for 2:45pm.
