VICTORIA - A 22-point performance from #
Kayla Dykstra# powered the UVic Vikes to a weekend sweep of the Calgary Dinos, taking an 81-67 decision Saturday night.
BOXSCORE
Dykstra shot 9-for-12 from the field, added nine rebounds and was the difference maker in the fourth quarter. With the game tied, the two-time All-Canadian post scored 11 of the Vikes' 14 points to open a double-digit lead and ice the victory.
Fellow fifth year seniors #
Vanessa Forstbauer# and #
Jane Anholt# also played key roles in the victory, scoring 15 and 10 points, respectively. Forstbauer added six rebounds and four assists, while Anholt was the energizer off the bench.
Calgary's scoring high was shared between Megan Lang and Ashley Hill with each player netting 15. Lang, who played her way into the starting lineup after a strong showing last night, contributed a pair of treys in the Dinos' 26-point second quarter.
At one point the Dinos led by seven points in the first half and took a 41-39 lead into the halftime break. The Vikes halftime adjustments helped stunt the Calgary's offence, holding the Dinos to 30 percent shooting over the final two quarters.
With a 2-0 record in league play, the Vikes will now travel to face Saskatchewan, the team that eliminated them from the 2009-10 Canada West post-season. The Huskies were ranked no. 2 in the conference's pre-season coaches poll.
