SASKATOON - With a 77-73 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies, the UVic Vikes women's basketball team stayed perfect on the young season and got a little revenge on the team that knocked them out of last season's playoffs.
BOXSCORE
Kayla Dykstra had retaliation on her mind, when she scored a game high 20 points against a Saskatchewan squad that swept the Vikes in the 2009-10 post-season series. Last March the Huskies came to McKinnon Gym and won the playoff matchup two-games-to-none en route to a CIS third-place finish.
On Friday night, the Huskies celebrated that national bronze medal victory with a pregame ceremony, but Dykstra and company spoiled the party. Dykstra scored 12 points in the final quarter, and rookie
Cassandra Goodis scored the game-winning basket in the final minute. Goodis finished with 13 points.
Debbie Yeboah added 17 points, which included the game's final points from the free-throw line in securing the win.
Sarah Semeniuk came off the bench to score 10, and also add three rebounds.
Saskatchewan's Katie Miyazaki scored 17 points on 7-for-15 shooting to lead the home side. Miyazaki is in her first year with the Huskies after transferring from Simon Fraser.
The Vikes will put their undefeated 3-0 conference record on the line Saturday when the two sides meet up for the rematch. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
