Lapthorne plays leading role in Vikes win

SASKATOON - A career night from Carmen Lapthorne led the UVic Vikes women's basketball team to a weekend sweep of the Saskatchewan Huskies, taking the tail end of the two-game set 72-65.

BOXSCORE

Lapthorne led all scorers with 25 points, shooting 10-for-12 from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range. The Victoria native and former BC College Player of the year scored seven points in the previous day's 77-73 win.

The Vikes entered the fourth quarter trailing, but a three-pointer from Lapthorne began a run of nine unanswered points. The Vikes finished the contest shooting 50 percent from the field.

Kayla Dykstra added 14 points, Debbie Yeboah 11, and Vanessa Forstbauer 10. Dykstra led the Vikes side with eight rebounds.

Saskatchewan's Kim Tulloch netted 16 points for the Huskies high. Kate Miyazaki contributed 11 and Jill Humbert scored 10.

The Huskies, who eliminated the Vikes from the playoffs a year ago, were ranked no. 2 in the conference's pre-season coaches' poll. The Vikes, who ranked third, are now 4-0 and will host the Manitoba Bisons next weekend.
