VICTORIA – Fresh off a bye weekend, the UVic Vikes men's rugby team returns to Wallace Field to host Gordon Head rivals Velox.
GAME INFORMATION
Sat. November 20 vs. Velox Valhallians (Wallace Field) – 2:30pm
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Last weekend the Valhallians lost to Elite Division leaders James Bay, and are now mathematically eliminated from the postseason. The Vikes benefited from the loss and regardless of this weekend's outcome, will head to MacDonald Park to compete for the Barnard Cup in December.
SCOUTING THE VIKES
The Vikes got some much-needed rest during the bye week ahead of the season's final stretch. The students have gone 5-2 this fall, losing only to James Bay. The squad posted five crucial bonus points in each of their wins, including a 45-5 decision at Velox RFC back in October.
Phil Mack led the charge against Velox feeding multiple try scorers before recording two tries himself.
SCOUTING THE VALHALLIANS
With Velox sitting at 4-3, this weekend's season finale could have decided who would contest for the Island championship. The Valhallians were unable to record enough bonus points during their campaign, however, and sit six points behind the Vikes. The squad fell to James Bay 36-10 last weekend, showing signs of improvement having fallen 66-20 to the Bays back on September 11.
