Victoria, BC – The University of Victoria men's rugby dominated in a 68-12 win over the Meraloma RFC, March 21 at Wallace Field.
All Vikes in the first half as a scoring onslaught built a 49-0 lead.
- The Vikes were off and running from the start of the match. Alex Gamage got the Vikes on the board with his early try. Cooper Coats added a conversion to make it 7-0.
- Cooper Coats added to the hot start, scoring a try of his own minutes after Gamage opened the scoring. Coats added a conversion for a 14-0 lead.
- Michael Outghtred showed his impressive speed as he danced his way to another Vikes' try, making the lead 21-0.
- Brendan Kim got on the scoreboard in the 16th minute as he barreled through all defenders, adding on to the scoring run.
- Coats returned to the tryzone as he added another first-half score to extend the Vikes' lead seven points further.
- David Richard closed the first half with yet another Vikes' try, making it 49 first-half points while pitching a shutout on the defensive end.
Scoring was back and forth in the second half, but the Vikes rode their comfortable lead.
- The Vikes were back on the attack as they scored the first two tries out of the halftime break. These scoring rushes added on to their large lead and made it a 61-0 game.
- Meraloma found the tryzone for two consecutive scores with time dwindling. These tries by the visitors cut into the Vikes' lead and made it 61-12 with a minute remaining.
- The final minute was an exciting one as the Vikes scored once more to seal the victory.
The Vikes will return to action to host Burnaby on March 28 at Wallace Field.
