Bound for the Barnard Cup

VICTORIA - With a berth in the Barnard Cup final already in tow, the UVic Vikes men's rugby team wrapped up the regular season slate with a 43-17 victory over Velox.

The Vikes entered the weekend already knowing they clinched a spot in the Barnard Cup final versus James Bay. James Bay, the table leader, will host the Island Elite post-season championship at MacDonald Park on Saturday, December 4th.

James Bay and UVic have met up for the Barnard Cup three straight years, with MacDonald Park hosting each time. The Bays are defending champs, with the Vikes last Island crown coming in 2008 - their ninth all-time.

With Saturday's win over Velox, UVic placed second in the league with a 6-2 mark and Willem du Plessis finished as the league's leading try scorer. du Plessis recorded the brace against Velox to finish with 11 trys this fall.

Other try scorers for the Vikes on Saturday included Ty Hamblin, Sean Duke, Dustin Dobravsky and substitute Tony La Carte also went over for the game's final score. Phil Mack also kicked a penalty and made five conversions.
