It's crunch time for the University of Victoria Vikes women's basketball team as they sit in a three-way tie for second place in the Canada West with a 15-5 record entering their final road trip of the regular season.

The Vikes play at Thompson Rivers on Feb. 4 and 5 at 6 p.m.

It's a dogfight in the Top 6 of the Canada West. Regina (15-3) holds two games in hand on the Vikes, as do fifth-place Winnipeg (14-4) and sixth-place UBC (13-5). Alberta, with no games in hand, also boasts a 15-5 record.

With just four games remaining, all four games on their schedule are crucial in the quest for home-floor advantage in the playoffs.

First place is still in reach with the Vikes trailing first-place Saskatchewan (16-2).

As for Thompson Rivers, they currently sit in ninth place and are in the midst of a 10-game losing steak. Fighting for a playoff spot, they trail seventh- and eighth-place Calgary and Fraser Valley by one game.

The scoring trio of Kaitlyn Widsten (12.2 points per game), Diane Schuetze (12.1 points per game) and Jen Ju (11.7 points per game) lead the WolfPack in scoring. Schuetze also averages a team-leading 7.7 rebounds per game, fourth-best in the Canada West.

UVic's defence is the third best in the conference, averaging just 59 points against, with the fourth-best offence averaging 71 points for per game. #Deborah Yeboah#, a junior point guard, is sixth in the Canada West, averaging 14.3 points per game. Sarah Semeniuk, the Vikes leading rebounder, averages 6.7 boards per game, seventh best in the conference.
