VICTORIA - The mature James Bay Athletic Association squad proved to be too much for the UVic Vikes men's rugby team to handle today, Feb 11. The Bays topped the Vikes 31-6 at McDonald Park in Victoria, B.C.
The Vikes came out strong despite facing a very experienced James Bay side. Several young Vikes players received first start this afternoon, including full-back #Kane Wyatt# who slotted UVic's only three points off of a penalty kick in the first half. Unfortunately, the Bays were able to cross the line twice, leading the Vikes 12-3 at the half.
UVic came out firing following the break, to open the second half scoring. Scrumhalf #Lucien Nel# gained the Vikes three more points off another penalty kick.
Tough defence and a strong will were not enough for the youthful Vikes to hold off Canada Sevens player Thyssen de Goede, who was able to touch down two additional tries for the Bays in the second half. A couple of additional unforced errors by the Vikes were enough for the mature Bays to put the nail in the coffin with another try scored by winger Pat Fraser. James Bay finished ahead of the Vikes with a final score of 31-6.
The Vikes continue in CDI Premiership play next weekend in Vancouver where they will face off against the UBCOB Ravens.
