VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes women's basketball team suffered an 80-73 loss to George Fox on Oct. 12 at McKinnon Gym. The Vikes were on pace with the Bruins for most of the first half but were unable to hang on as they are forced to take a loss in their pre-season home opener.

The Vikes who were without veteran forward Jessica Renfrew tonight and as a result, relied on post Sarah Semeniuk, who put up 19 points in the game, as well as fourth-year point guard Cassandra Goodis who added 18. Two other Vikes hit double digits including Jenny Lewis and Shaylyn Crisp, who each chipped in with 13.
 
The Bruins were led in scoring by Justine Benner, Kylee Parker and McKenzie Wolfe. The visitors capitalized with 24 points on Vikes turnovers, added 25 on second-chance points, and earned 38 points in the paint.
 
Up next the Vikes will host a UVic Invitational tournament that features both Wilfrid Laurier and Thompson Rivers. The tournament will run from Oct. 18-20 at McKinnon Gym and will be broadcast live at http://canadawest.tv
