The Vikes received offensive contributions from a variety of sources Saturday, receiving tries from
Nathan Yanagiya,
James Pitblado,
Luke McCloskey, Willem duPlessis and
Nathan Stewart.
Fergus Hall continued his season-long offensive outburst, posting a try and a penalty kick along with kicking five conversions.
Â
Both teams battled in a tight first half that saw the Vikes holding on to an 8-5 lead. The Vikes had plenty of opportunities to score as they focused on playing to the wide parts of the field while the Wanderers attempted to go up the channels.Â
Â
The Vikes benefitted from the return of Pat Kay, who has seen little action this season in a Vikes uniform as a result of commitments to the Canadian national team as well as several injuries. Kay's play helped lead the Vikes to a 40-point second-half and the their fourth Premier League victory of the season.
Â
"I was really happy with the way he played today," said Vikes head coach Doug Tate. "He had some good kicks to relieve pressure, defensively Pat played well, it's one area of the game he wants to play better.
Â
The Vikes will play their final rugby game of 2013 when they face James Bay Athletic Association in the Barnard Cup final. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m., Nov. 29 at Centennial Stadium. Proceeds of the match will go towards the Judah Campbell fund.
