VICTORIA, B.C. – Riding a wave of recent success as winners of the 2013 National University Sevens Championship, Mar. 1-2, and victorious in last night's rugby union match against Canada's U-20 men's team, the University of Victoria Vikes find themselves in a premier league island battle this Saturday, Mar. 9, against the Castaway Wanderers.

The Vikes currently sit fourth place in the Canadian Direct Insurance Premier league with an even record of 4-4 while the Castaway Wanderers are sixth in the standings with their record of 2-5-1.
 
The last time these two sides met, on Nov. 17 in a Barnard Cup match before the season break, the Vikes came out on top with a 23-17 win but were bested by the Oak Bay side 30-26 one week earlier.
 
With scrumhalf Jamie MacKenzie (Oakville, ON) out of the mix due to injury, the Vikes must rely on rookie James Pitblado, currently in contention for the Canadian U-20 men's squad, to slot in alongside flyhalf Patrick Kay (Duncan, B.C.).
 
Defensively, the Castaway Wanderers rank fourth in the league with an average of 20.5 ppg against while the Vikes have an average of 24.75 ppg against. Top scorer for CW is Fraser Lyle with 35 points in five games and in conjunction with standouts Kyle Armstrong and Michael Fuailefau the Vikes will have their hands full defensively.
 
The Vikes will kick off against the Castaway Wanderers at 2:45 p.m., Mar. 9, in Oak Bay's Windsor Park.
