VICTORIA, B.C. -- It was a rainy day for rugby on Oct. 31, but the University of Victoria Vikes persevered by beating Westshore RFC 38-15 in Langford, B.C. The win improves the Vikes to 6-0 in their quest for the Barnard Cup while Westshore RFC falls further into a slump at 0-6.
"The weather was a massive factor in today's game," commented Vikes men's rugby assistant coach
Rick Farrally. "It really forced us to switch around our game plan because it made it difficult for us to get our running game going. I thought
Luke Bradley, Grady Bowd,
Morgan Tate and
Kevin Leask had terrific games for us today. It was a great performance by our side."
The Vikes were too much on the day for Westshore, leading 17-10 at the half and never looking back. The Vikes defence held Westshore to only five second half points while they pounded the offence through. Vikes third year outside half Guiseppe du Toit did damage on all fronts by scoring a try, convert and two penalty kicks for the Vikes. Bradley, Tate, Leask,
Oliver Nott and Keelan Chapman all added tries for the Vikes in the win.Â
The Vikes finish off a streak of three games in a row away from hom on Nov. 7 when they face rivals the James Bay Athletic Association at MacDonald Park. The Vikes then return home to Centennial Stadium for a game under the lights against the Castaway Wanderers on Nov. 13.
Scoring Summary: G. du Doit (1T, 1C, 2P), L. Bradley (1T), M. Tate (1T), K. Chapman (1T), O. Nott (1T), K. Leask (1T)
