VICTORIA, B.C. - After trailing late into the last minute of the game, the Vikes edged past rivals James Bay Athletic Association 29-26 with a try in the last seconds by third-year Vike
Crosby Stewart. The win stretches the Vikes unbeaten record to seven games at 7-0 while James Bay is now 2-4 on the season.
Stewart's winning try was his third of the game, with the rest of the scoring coming from
Liam Chisholm and
Isaac Kaay tries and two converts from Guiseppe du Toit.Â
After jumping out to a 12-3 lead, the Vikes trailed at half-time down 16-12 to James Bay. Down 26-17 in the second quarter, the Vikes battled back with 12 unanswered points to seal the victory and the clean sweep of James Bay in the season series 3-0. Stewart ran it into the corner at full-time to secure the Vikes win.
"Due to the weather, the pitch made it difficult to play our typical fast-paced running game," said Vikes assistant coach
Rick Farrally. "We made up for it by playing strong defence through standouts fourth-year Vike
Kevin Leask and third year Flanker Jeff Nishima-Miller."
The Vikes return home after a string of three road games when they play the Castaway Wanderers on Nov. 13 at Centennial Stadium.
