VICTORIA—A second half shutout of the Westshore Valhallians helped the UVic Vikes to a 40-11 victory on October 29, in a game played at the Brentwood College School.
 
"We played really well defensively, much better than we have been playing this season. That was a big bonus because we were up against a good team," said Vikes head coach Doug Tate.
 
The Vikes were attacking from everywhere in the game, five different players scored a try to erase a narrow halftime deficit.
 
Jonathan Lorimer led the way with two tries while James Pitblado, Lucas Hammond, Kaprieli Vataiki and Isaac Kaay each scored one. Guiseppe duToit was clutch in the kicking game, making five conversions in the contest.
 
The game was a tale of two halves, a close low scoring affair was 11-7 in favour of Westshore at the halftime break.
 
"They played well in the first half and we struggled a bit. We had to work to wear them down a bit, and then we started to roll," said Tate.
 
The offence burst into life for the Vikes in the second half as they recorded 33 unanswered points on their way to the comfortable victory.
 
Tate pointed to Lorimer and Hammond as two players that had especially strong games.
 
The Vikes remain on the road next weekend when they play James Bay on November 5 at 2:45 p.m.
