VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes men's rugby team will look to return to winning ways this weekend as they welcome Capilano RFC to Wallace Field on Saturday, Apr. 2 for their last regular season home game of 2015-16.
Â
Both the Vikes and Caps enter Saturday's match after failing to win their previous CDI Premier League fixture. The Vikes fell victim to a second half Burnaby comeback in a 48-34 loss on Mar. 19 while Capilano dropped a close 27-26 contest with the UBCOB Ravens.
Â
Small mistakes have piled up for the Vikes in the past two games, and the Vikes will need to take extra care in possession to minimize error against a historically energetic and relentless team like Capilano.
Â
"We've dug ourselves into a hole over the past few games," said Vikes assistant coach
Rick Farrally. "We need to be stronger in possession and make fewer mistakes. A few times this season we've been fighting back in a game and lose the opportunity to get back into it because of a costly error."
Â
Fourth year
Liam Chisholm draws back in at lock for the Vikes after missing time with injury and national team commitments. Third-year centre Joe Erlic returns to action and will start on the bench, giving the Vikes a strong option on the back line and out wide on the wing.
Â
"This weekend could be our last home game of the season and I think the guys will be up for it," added Farrally. "Capilano pressures their opponents from the first minute to the last, and playing at home on the wide Wallace Field helps our expansive, fast approach to the game."
Â
Kick-off time is at 2:45 p.m. Next weekend the Vikes will wrap up their CDI Premier League regular season campaign with a visit to Vancouver, B.C. to face the Rowers on Apr. 9.
