PREVIEW: Homestand continues with Vikes looking to maintain momentum

Sep. 15-17: Victoria men's soccer vs. MacEwan Griffins (Centennial Stadium, Victoria BC) & Mount Royal Cougars (Centennial Stadium)

Tale of the Weekend

VICTORIA – Finding their way into the win column for the first time in 2017 last weekend, the UVic Vikes men's soccer team will look to build on that positive result when both the MacEwan Griffins and the Mount Royal Cougars come to Victoria for games on Sep. 15 and 17.

Taking on the Griffins Friday night at 7:15 p.m., and the Cougars in a rare Sunday game at 2:00 p.m., the time is now for the Vikes to start clawing their way back up the Pacific Division standings if the team is going to avoid missing the playoffs in back-to-back years.

It's not often that the Vikes play either the newcomers from Alberta. The last time UVic played Mount Royal was a 5-0 playoff victory for the Vikes in 2015, while the Vikes have never played MacEwan in the regular season.

Last Time Out

The Vikes managed to salvage a split with UNBC last weekend, rebounding from a 2-0 loss on Friday to defeat the Timberwolves 2-1 on Saturday.

The Griffins saw their record drop to 1-3-0 with a pair of 2-1 losses to the Saskatchewan Huskies and the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

Mount Royal picked up a point in both games they played last weekend, defeating Saskatchewan 1-0 and playing Lethbridge to a 1-1 tie.

By the Numbers

3: Lahai Mansaray is a player to watch for MacEwan, he has scored three of the team's six goals this season.
15: Kyran Valley has started all four games in net for the Cougars, making 15 saves.
21: The Vikes have used almost every player on their deep roster, 21 different players have seen action for the team this year.
