PREVIEW: Vikes host Westshore eyeing playoff spot

March 24: UVic Vikes men's rugby vs. Westshore (Wallace Field)

Tale of the Weekend

VICTORIA - A pair of Island rivals will renew hostilities this weekend when the University of Vikes men's rugby team hosts the Westshore Valhallians at Wallace Field on Saturday, March. 24.

Currently riding high on a four-game winning streak, the Vikes are one of the hottest teams in the B.C. Premier League and have reversed their fortunes with a strong second half after struggling during the fall portion of their schedule.

Taking place at 2:30 p.m., the game will pit the 7-9 Vikes against a Westshore team that holds a record of 5-11. Their current winning streak has moved the Vikes to 39 points on the year where they are tied with James Bay for the sixth and final playoff spot. There is no time for the Vikes to rest on their laurels however, with just four games left to play they are stuck in a log-jam of four teams separated by just three points all battling for just two playoff spots.

All the way back on Sept. 9, the Vikes were defeated by Westshore by a score of 24-20 in the first game of the Premier League Schedule.

Last Time Out

The Vikes were able to run their winning streak to four with a dominant performance against the 'Lomas last weekend.

Second-year Vike Brennig Prevost scored 22 points by himself and six other Vikes added a try apiece as the team ran away to a 49-17 victory.
