Vikes men's rugby unable to keep pace with Burnaby Lake

Sept. 29: Burnaby Lake 46 Victoria Vikes 24 (Burnaby, B.C.)

VICTORIA- The University of Victoria men's rugby team suffered a 46-24 loss to Burnaby Lake on Sept. 29 in Burnaby, B.C.  With the loss, the Vikes drop to a 1-2 record in the B.C. Premier league standings.

Burnaby was able to capitalize on several mistakes made by the Vikes in the first half, scoring 22 points compared to the Vikes 7.

"Some very poor defensive decisions that we made really hurt us," said Vikes head coach Doug Tate. "Burnaby took advantage and exploited us off our turnovers."

The Vikes were dealt an early blow in the game losing a couple key players to injury, which disrupted the flow of the game early for Victoria. The Vikes found themselves down 22-7 at half time.

"We tried hard to mount a comeback in the second half but Burnaby kept the pressure on us, they were simply the better team today," added Tate.

Despite the loss, Ollie Nott continued his try-scoring streak by getting over the goal line for a fourth straight game.  The Vikes also got tries from Brennig Prevost, Nicholas Carson and Aidan McMullan in the match, which resulted in a final score of 46-24 in favour of Burnaby.

The Vikes will have a bye over the Thanksgiving weekend before heading north to Nanaimo to play the Hornets on Oct. 13.
