Mollenhauer earns more All-Canadian honours

Anna Mollenhauer was presented her All-Canadian certificate for the second-straight year by Jim Dunsdon, UVic Associate Vice President, Student Affairs.
VICTORIA – One of the most recognizable names on the University of Victoria women's field hockey team earned another national award.

It was announced during the All-Canadian Gala at The University Club of Victoria that Anna Mollenhauer was named a U SPORTS All-Canadian for the second-straight year.

"It's a huge honour, but for me the team awards are more important than the individual ones. It's still exciting, but the biggest one for me is to win another national banner," said Mollenhauer.

Mollenhauer recently completed her third Canada West season with the Vikes where she was selected to the Canada West All-Star team for the third consecutive season. An anchor on defence, she played a big role in the Vikes allowing the fewest goals in the conference (5) this season. Last year, along with being named the Canada West Player of the Year, she also won the Liz Hoffman Award as the U SPORTS Player of the Year.

"This season has been mentally and physically challenging. Luckily, we have a really fun team on and off the field, which makes the early morning training sessions and runs more enjoyable," said Mollenhauer.

Anna is the daughter of UVic Field Hockey Hall of Famer and two-time Olympian Nancy Mollenhauer.

The hometown hockey player has spent the last few years touring the world with the national program and appeared in tournaments in China, Belgium, the Pan-American Games and she won the Best Junior Player of all the U21 players at the FIH Hockey Series Final in Valencia, Spain. She has been with the Junior National Team since 2014 and made her debut with the senior team this past year.

Anna and the Vikes are taking on the University of Guelph Gryphons in the best-of-three U SPORTS national championship. She helped deliver the Vikes first national gold medal last season when the Vikes swept the York University Lions 2-0.
