VANCOUVER – The University of Victoria Vikes were victorious in their first game back from their extravagant trip to Portugal.
In the Lower Mainland, the Vikes picked up the 38-29 victory over Capilanos and ended a mini two-game slide in the B.C. Rugby Union Premiere League.
The Vikes turned to their defence in a very physical affair and forced the home team to cough up several mistakes along the way.
Driving the ball deep into Capilanos territory, the Vikes once led 38-17 on the strength of tries from
Jonas Robinson,
Mostyn Findlay,
Gavin Kratz and James O'Neil. Jenner Tuefel racked up 18 points on four penalty kicks and three converts.
Former Vike Johnny Franklin helped Capilanos make a comeback, but their bid fell short as the second half expired.
Next up for the Vikes in the University 7s National Championship on March 5 and 6 in Langford. They return to 15s play on March 14 when they are back in Vancouver to battle the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds in a Legends Cup battle.
