Kingston, Ont. – The University of Victoria men's rugby team will get the opportunity to defend its 2019 Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship title, as the Vikes held off the University of Guelph Gryphons, 29-22, to punch their ticket to the gold medal match.

6th Minute – UVic 5, Guelph 0
- Getting the Vikes on the board, Benjamin Newhook pushed through the defending pack to get it over the line for the try.
14th Minute – UVic 5, Guelph 5
- Guelph would tie the game with a breakaway try.
16th Minute – UVic 12, Guelph 5
- An offload by Carter White found Christopher Gamage running up alongside him, who touched it down between the posts to put UVic back in front.
- Gamage would made the ensuing conversion to add two more points for the Vikes and score all seven points of the play.
21st Minute – UVic 12, Guelph 10
- The Gryphons would add a second try after capitalizing on a penalty advantage.
26th Minute – UVic 17, Guelph 10
- Jonas Robinson managed to touch the ball down amongst a sea of Gryphons to extend the Vikes' lead.
30th Minute – UVic 24, Guelph 10
- Receiving the pass from the ground right in front of the try line, Zarija Djurickovic touched it down for the Vikes to score his first of the tournament.
- Gamage made his second convert of the night to send the match to halftime.
35th Minute – UVic 29, Guelph 10
- Rushing down the left line, Ethan Hager scored for the Vikes to open the second-half scoring.
41st Minute – UVic 29, Guelph 17
- The Gryphons would be next on the board, notching a try and conversion to narrow the gap.
56th Minute – UVic 29, Guelph 22
- Guelph would score on back-to-back possessions to pull within seven with 1:30 to play.
WORTH NOTING
- UVic matched its second-lowest points allowed total against the Gryphons. The Vikes previously allowed a low of 22 to UBC in the regular season, Oct. 16, before shutting out Dalhousie, Nov. 24.
- Gamage led the Vikes' scoring on the night, tallying nine points.
- Notching five tries during the match, the Vikes saw five different scorers.
- Adding his third try of the tournament in the win, Robinson ranks fourth among all players at the CUMRC with 15 total points.
- The win sends the Vikes to the gold medal match, where UVic will look to defend its 2019 CUMRC title.
