Edmonton, Alta. – The University of Victoria women's basketball team fell to the University of Alberta, 73-50, Nov. 19 at the Saville Community Sports Centre.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alberta took the lead from the outset, building an 8-0 lead over the first three minutes of play before a pair of free throws from Ashlyn Day put the Vikes on the board, making the score 8-2 with 6:47 to go in the first quarter.
- The Pandas continued to grow their lead, taking a 23-9 lead at the end of the first.
- A three from Kate Johnson in the final 30 seconds of the second quarter made it 42-20 Alberta at the half.
- Unable to make up any ground in the third, Alberta held the 58-36 lead going into the final frame.
- Despite holding the Pandas to their fewest quarter points of the night (15) in the fourth, the game finished with a score of 73-50 in favour of Alberta.
WORTH NOTING
- Johnson led the Vikes with 16 points, adding five rebounds and two assists on the night.
- Day recorded 14 points, three rebounds and one steal for the Vikes.
- Setting a new career-high, Mimi Sigue finished with 14 rebounds.
- The Vikes drop to 2-4 after the loss, while the Pandas improve to 5-1 with the win.
