VICTORIA – A last-minute comeback effort fell short for the University of Victoria women's basketball team, who fell to Trinity Western University, 80-74, Nov. 26 at CARSA Performance Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two sides were neck-and-neck for the first six minutes of play before TWU went on a 10-point run to take a 23-13 lead with 2:27 remaining in the first.
- With the Vikes scoreless for the remainder of the first, Trinity Western held a 28-13 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
- A 6-0 Vikes run in the second quarter made the score 31-22 in favour of TWU with 6:10 until halftime.
- The Spartans grew their lead to 17, 39-22, with 2:34 to go before the Vikes fought back to make it a 41-30 game at the half.
- Trinity Western held a steady lead in the third, holding a 61-48 advantage after 30 minutes of action.
- A pair of jumpers and two made free throws from Ashlyn Day brought the Vikes within five, 66-61, with 2:37 to go.
- Unable to make up any more ground, the Spartans came away with the win, 80-74.
WORTH NOTING
- Kate Johnson led the Vikes with 25 points, going 10-for-19 from the field and adding three rebounds, two assists, and two steals on the night.
- Mimi Sigue notched 16 points and seven rebounds with an assist and two steals for the Vikes.
- Brooklyn White led UVic with 15 rebounds, adding a team-high three steals while also contributing two assists and one block to her stat line.
- The Vikes move to 2-6 on the season with the loss, while Trinity Western improves to 6-2.
