VICTORIA – The University of Victoria women's basketball team defeated Mount Royal University, 85-52, Dec. 2 inside CARSA Performance Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kate Johnson put the first five points on the board for the Vikes via jumper and three-pointer, resulting in a 5-3 UVic lead with eight minutes to go in the opening frame.
- An 8-0 Vikes run capped by a three from Tana Pankratz put the Vikes ahead, 20-9, with 1:33 remaining in the first quarter.
- A layup by Brooklyn White at the buzzer gave Victoria the 25-11 advantage at the end of the first.
- A put-back from Abigail Becker resulted in a 20-point Vikes lead, 33-13, before making it a 34-13 game in favour of the Vikes on the ensuring and-one with 7:45 until halftime.
- A 5-0 UVic run over the final minute of the quarter gave the Vikes the 54-27 lead at the half.
- Back-to-back three's by Ashlyn Day and a White jumper made it a 66-29 game for Victoria halfway through the third quarter.
- Knocking down a three at the buzzer, Tegan MacKinnon brought the score to 73-38 in favour of the Vikes at the end of the third quarter.
- Keeping the Cougars at bay, the Vikes closed the game with the 85-52 win.
WORTH NOTING
- Day led the Vikes with 18 points, adding three rebounds, three assists and three steals in the win.
- Mimi Sigue led the Vikes on the boards with 13, adding nine points to her tally.
- Johnson and Becker each had a double-figure scoring night at 11 and 10 points, respectively.
- The Vikes move to 3-6 with the win, while the Cougars fall to 3-4 with the setback.
