St. Catharines, Ont. – The University of Victoria women's rowing team won the national championship title for the first time since 2012 at the Canadian University Rowing Championships, Nov. 6, on the Royal Henley Rowing Course.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Winning the 8+ A Final, the Vikes boat of Danae McCulloch, Maggie Hemphill, Abby Speirs, Nicole Cusack, Mikaela Holthuis, Danica Ariano, Kaliya Javra, Noa Hardcastle, and Sofie Hof clocked in at 6:12.270 to win the event. The Vikes also took the time trial 8+ race with a time of 5:49.932.
- The duo of Paige Letham and Genevieve Olsen claimed the lightweight 2x gold medal with a time of 7:01.85, improving from their sixth-place time trial finish one day prior.
- Securing the silver in the 4+ race, Letham, Sophia Regosa, Olsen, Charise Faubert, and Zoe Crookshank's time of 6:58.05 resulted in the second-place finish.
- Hemphill and Speirs added a podium finish in the 2- A Final with a time of 7:04.48 for the bronze medal.
- The Vikes took first place with 106 points overall for the 12th national title in program history, and first under head coach Jane Gumley.
- Gumley was named Coach of the Year for the second-straight season following the banner-winning regatta.

The Vikes will send athletes to the RCA National Championships, set for Nov. 10-12 in Duncan, B.C.
