Bellingham, Wash. – Taking fifth as a team, the University of Victoria men's golf team wrapped up play at the Western Washington University Men's Fall Invitational, Sept. 26-27.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Day 1
- Playing 36 holes on the first day of competition, Chase Basanta posted the top Vikes finish, carding rounds of 69 (-3) and 73 (+1) to finish in ninth place with an overall score of -2.
- After a 76 (+3) first round, Aiden Craig-Steele posted a 70 (-2) during his second round to move into a tie for 19th place at +1 overall.
- Zach Ryujin sat in a tie for 30th at +3 overall after the first day of competition with rounds of 73 (+1) and 74 (+2) .
- A 73 (+1) first round and 75 (+3) second round landed Robin Conlan in a tie for 37th place at +4 overall after 36 holes.
- Tahir Shamji posted rounds of 73 (+1) and 81 (+9) to finish day one +10 and in a tie for 63rd individually.
- As a team, the Vikes posted an even 288 on the first 18 and 292 (+4) in round two to hold fifth place at +4 overall.
Day 2
- Holding his ninth-place individual spot, Chase Basanta shot a 73 (+1) in his final round to finish -1 overall.
- Shooting a 73 (+2), Aiden Craig-Steele wrapped the tournament at +2 overall and in a tie for 20th place.
- Carding his lowest round of the tournament, Robin Conlan finished with an under-par 71 (-1) to sit at +3 overall and in a tie for 25th place.
- Finishing in a tie for 37th, Zach Ryujin carded his second-straight round of 74 (+2) for a +5 overall tally.
- Tahir Shamji dropped four strokes off his round two card in the final round, shooting a 77 (+5) for a +15 overall finish in a tie for 63rd.
- The Vikes finished fifth overall as a team, combining for a 291 in the third round to finish at +7.
UP NEXT
The Vikes host the 2022 Canada West Golf Championships, Oct. 3-4, at Cordova Bay Golf Course.
