Kamloops, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's basketball team opened its road swing with a 71-45 victory over Thompson Rivers University, Jan. 27 at the Tournament Capital Centre.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Points from Kate Johnson, Abigail Becker, Sierra Reisig, and Ashlyn Day pushed the Vikes out to an 11-3 lead with 5:31 to play in the opening quarter.
- A quick 6-0 run by the WolfPack pulled TRU within one, 13-12, with 3:20 to go in the first.
- A three from Day and layup from Brooklyn White gave the Vikes a 22-15 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
- The Vikes went ahead by 10, 25-15, via Day three in their first possession of the second quarter.
- Continuing to build their lead, the Vikes entered halftime with a 41-26 lead.
- Outscoring Thompson Rivers 14-5 over the first half of the third quarter, the Vikes held a 55-31 lead at the first timeout of the second half.
- A pair of free throws from Day grew Victoria's lead to 61-39 after 30 minutes of play.
- Keeping the WolfPack at bay in the fourth quarter, a final basket from Nicole Torozan sealed the Vikes' win, 71-45.
WORTH NOTING
- Day led the way for the Vikes with 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win.
- Johnson and Mimi Sigue nearly had double-double efforts, with Johnson recording 10 points and nine rebounds while Sigue notched nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
- The Vikes move to 6-9 with the win, while the WolfPack drop to 1-14 with the loss.
