Kamloops, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's basketball team completed the weekend sweep over Thompson Rivers University, claiming a 64-48 win over the WolfPack, Jan. 28 at the Tournament Capital Centre.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a slow start for both teams, the Vikes used the final four minutes of the first quarter to embark on an 12-3 run, resulting in an 18-9 Vikes lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
- A jumper from Kate Johnson and three from Ashlyn Day in the final two minutes of the second quarter sent the Vikes into halftime with a 43-24 lead.
- Opening the third quarter on a 15-0 run, four free throws from Abigail Becker, a jumper from Brooke Kendal, three from Sierra Reisig, and a free throw and layup from Mimi Sigue gave the Vikes a 55-24 lead with 5:17 to go in the third.
- Keeping TRU scoreless for first 5:07 of the third quarter helped the Vikes finish with a 57-35 lead heading into the final frame.
- Despite being outscored by the WolfPack, 13-7 in the final quarter, the Vikes came away with the 64-48 win.
WORTH NOTING
- Johnson led the Vikes with 15 points, adding a team-high seven rebounds and team-leading four steals in addition to one assist in the win.
- Reisig recorded a season-high 11 points for the Vikes, adding five rebounds, two steals, and a team-high four assists in a season-high 27 minutes played.
- Becker tied Johnson with a team-leading seven rebounds, adding nine points and a team-high two blocks on the night.
- The Vikes end the weekend with a 7-9 overall record, while Thompson Rivers drops to 1-15 with the loss.
