Kelowna, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's basketball team fell to the University of British Columbia Okanagan, 80-65, Feb. 3 at "The Furnace" at UBCO.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Back-to-back layups from Mimi Sigue put the first points on the board for the Vikes, giving UVic a 4-2 lead in the first minute of play.
- After the Heat regained the lead, the home side held an 18-13 lead after the first quarter of play.
- Unable to make up any ground in the second quarter, the Vikes entered halftime down, 41-29.
- A layup from Abigail Becker narrowed the Heat's lead to single digits, 48-39, with 7:22 to play in the third quarter.
- Narrowly outscored by UBCO, 22-19 in the third, the Vikes trailed by a score of 63-48 after 30 minutes of play.
- The Heat held their lead in the fourth quarter, taking the win, 80-65.
WORTH NOTING
- Kate Johnson recorded 22 points to lead the Vikes, adding five rebounds, two assists and one steal in a team-leading 32 minutes of play.
- Sigue tallied 13 points, six rebounds, two steals, and one assist for the Vikes.
- Ashlyn Day finished with 11 points while Becker finished with 10 to round out the double-digit scoring performances for UVic.
- Brooklyn White tallied the most rebounds of any player in the game with 11, adding one assist, one steal, one block, and two points for Victoria.
- The Vikes sit at 7-10 on the season while the Heat improve to 10-9 with the win.
