Burnaby, B.C. – The University of Victoria men's rowing team had a solid showing at the Western Canadian University Rowing Championships, Oct. 7 on Burnaby Lake.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rookies Cole Carter and Simon Whittaker finished 1-2 in the JV 1x race, clocking in with times of 7:36.92 and 7:43.99 for gold and silver, respectively.
- Giancarlo DiPompeo was part of three silver medal-winning boats for the Vikes: the lightweight 1x (7:17.07), the lightweight 2x (6:52.82) with Matthew Thompson, and the lightweight 4+ (6:47.19) with Louis Ferraro, Oliver Howard Batek, Thompson, and Sascha Jansen-Rudan.
- The Vikes added a silver medal in the 8+ race, with the team of Nicholas Murray-Coplen, Spencer Lewis, Quinn Storey, Connor Attridge, Jesse Harold, Michael Caryk, Victor Lefebvre, Aidan Carr, and Kai Bartel finishing with a time of 5:57.56.
- Attridge and Storey also teamed up for a silver medal in the 2- race, taking second at 6:54.32.
- Samuel Ross and Sam Ree rounded out the silver medallists for UVic, taking second in the JV 2- with a 7:12.73 performance.
