Abbotsford, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's basketball team opened its first road trip of the 2023-24 season with an 89-65 loss to the University of the Fraser Valley, Nov. 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Vikes were held scoreless for three minutes to open the game, before a Sierra Reisig jumper put points on the board for UVic with just under seven minutes to go.
- Though the Cascades worked their way to a 10-point lead, 13-3, two pairs of free throws by Abigail Becker and Makena Anderson brought UVic back within six, 13-7, at the halfway point of the first quarter.
- UFV added nine points to the Vikes' three in the final two minutes to take a 28-15 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
- Finding a way to rally back after the Cascades' lead grew to 24 over the opening half of the second quarter, a Brooklyn White free throw, Anderson three-pointer and Becker bucket brought UFV's lead to 44-26 with two and a half minutes to play in the second.
- Three's from Karis de Paiva and Anderson kept the Vikes within striking distance, bringing the score to 52-33 at the half.
- Coming out of the halftime break firing, an 11-2 Vikes run over the first two minutes pulled Victoria within 13, 54-41, thanks in part to three's from Tegan MacKinnon and Anderson.
- UFV garnered momentum in the later half of the third, ending on a 6-0 run to take a 79-52 lead into the fourth quarter.
- Though making three of their eight three-pointers in the final frame and out-scoring the Cascades, 13-10, it was not enough for the Vikes to overcome the deficit and ultimately fell, 89-65.

- Becker recorded team-highs in points (18), rebounds (9), and blocks (2) for UVic. All three are also season-highs for Becker.
