VICTORIA - Battling the atmospheric river hitting British Columbia, the University of Victoria men's rugby team fell in a tight contest to the University of British Columbia, 26-21, Oct. 19 on Wallace Field.

Thunderbirds take early lead
- Two tries and converts by UBC in the first 10 minutes gave the visiting side a 14-0 lead.
Vikes tie it at the half
- A 15th minute lineout for the Vikes lead to a maul, with Jordy Auger carrying the ball and getting over the line for the try. A convert from Alex Gamage brought the score to 14-7.
- Nearly 10 minutes later, Chris Gamage made a quick pick up from the ground and stayed low, diving over the line with the ball to get it down for the try. An A. Gamage convert brought the two sides level, 14-14, and the score would remain in place at the end of the first half.
Victoria takes the lead, UBC gets final score
- Though the Thunderbirds added five points to their lead with a try in the 43rd minute, the Vikes came back four minutes later. A quick swing of the ball to the left side of the field made its way to Josh McIndoe, who caught it mid-stride and finished the run to get it down in the in-goal for the try. Another A. Gamage convert put the Vikes in front, 21-19.
- UBC scored a try and convert in the 58th minute to take a 26-21 lead, which would hold until the final whistle.

The Vikes host Trinity Western University Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2:30 p.m. in a battle for the second B.C. team berth to the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship.
