Field hockey to battle for sixth-straight national title

VICTORIA - The University of Victoria field hockey team heads to York University in search of its sixth-straight U SPORTS championship title, Oct. 31-Nov. 3.

LAST MEETINGS
  • Victoria and Waterloo last matched up Nov. 1, 2013, on day two of the U SPORTS championship in Victoria. The Vikes came away with a 3-0 win, with one goal being scored by current assistant coach Kyla Kirby.
  • This will be the first meeting between the Vikes and Panthers at the national championship.
  • UVic and York matched up for the U SPORTS championship best-of-three series in 2022, hosted by the Vikes. Victoria came away with 2-0 and 2-1 wins to win the series in the first two games.
NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes enter the tournament as the five-time defending national champions, going 5-1-2 in Canada West play in 2024 to capture the program's sixth-straight and 25th overall conference title.
  • Waterloo enters at the OUA champion, going 6-4 in the regular season and 2-0 in the OUA playoffs to capture the conference title. UPEI enters as the Atlantic University Field Hockey (AUFH) champion, recently defeating Dalhousie to win their third-straight title. The Panthers went 10-0-2 in the AUFH regular season before winning the championship final match. Hosts York went 8-2 in the OUA season, and 1-1 in the playoffs to claim the conference bronze medal. 
  • A new championship model will be in effect for the 2024 championship, returning to a round robin format with best records advancing to the gold medal game instead of a best-of-three series.
  • Chloe Langkammer leads the Vikes with seven goals on the season, which also ranked second-most in the conference. Josie Dunham and Amanda Adams have each scored four goals for the Vikes this year.
  • Anais Chace and the Vikes have recorded six shutouts in eight games played this season.
  • The Vikes have had 12 different goal scores combine for 29 goals this season.
