Ottawa, Ont. – The University of Victoria men's rugby team took fifth place at the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship after defeating the University of British Columbia Okanagan, 59-7, in the consolation final at Matt Anthony Field, Nov. 17.

Vikes jump in front in first 20 minutes
- The Vikes opened the scoring in the third minute, when a favourable bounce found Lockhart MacGregor, who grounded the ball for the 5-0 Vikes lead. Matthew Bennett was successful on the convert to add two points to Victoria's lead.
- Jaxson Jones added a try for the Vikes in the seventh minute, putting UVic in front, 12-0.
- Jones scored a second try in the 18th minute, and with a Bennett convert, gave the Vikes a 19-0 lead.
Heaney-Corns, Moller increase lead before halftime
- Ryder Heaney-Corns' try and Bennett's convert in the 22nd minute was followed by a try from Phoenix Moller and Bennett convert in the 27th minute to put the Vikes ahead by a score of 33-0 at halftime.
Vikes score four more times before final whistle
- Though the UBCO defence held strong for the first near-10 minutes of the second half, Nicolas Willey broke through for the Vikes with a try in the 39th minute. Bennett was once again successful on the convert to bring the score to 40-0 for the Vikes.
- Back-to-back tries from Ethan Smith and Willey in the 45th and 48th minutes, along with two more Bennett converts, increased the Vikes' lead to 52-0 heading in to the final 10 minutes of play.
- The final Vikes try of the day came from Liam Bolton, scoring off a Vikes lineout. Bennett's final convert of the day resulted in the 59-0 Victoria lead.
- UBCO got over the line in the 58th minute and was successful on the convert attempt to finalize the score at 59-7 for the Vikes.
