Ruby Nicholas and
Fin Tugwell of the University of Victoria soccer teams have been named U SPORTS First Team All-Canadians, the organization announced today. Nov. 6 at the annual awards banquets ahead of the national championship tournaments.
The 2024 Canada West Player of the Year, Nicholas earns her first U SPORTS All-Canadian nod having started all 17 games for the Vikes this season, logging over 1,400 minutes on the pitch. She leads the Vikes in goals, assists, and points with eight, seven, and 15, respectively. Her eight goals and six assists during Canada West play each tied for fifth-most in Canada West, while her 14 league points place her fourth in the league leaderboard. Along with player of the year honours, Nicholas was named a Canada West All-Star in 2024, marking the third conference all-star accolade in her career. Nicholas can often be found sprinting down the sideline, breaking away from opposing defenders to set up scoring chances or be the scorer for the Vikes.
Tugwell, a two-time Canada West All-Star, earns the first U SPORTS All-Canadian accolade of his career in 2024. The conference Defensive Player of the Year, Tugwell started all 15 games he appeared in for the Vikes, tallying one goal and one assist. Tugwell anchored the Vikes' back line, logging over 1,380 minutes on the pitch and helping the Vikes to allow just five goals in the 15 games he appeared in. The ultimate team player for the Vikes, Tugwell is an intelligent and consistent defender that is very composed in possession and also makes positive contributions to the Vikes' offence with timely points and his presence on set pieces.
