VICTORIA - The University of Victoria golf teams completed a split weekend, capturing the team title at Simpson University's Spring Invitational on the women's side and finishing 12th at Wayland Baptist University's The Battle at Laughlin Ranch on the men's side, March 25-26.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Simpson University Spring Invitational
- Lana Rummel led the way for the Vikes, carding the only under-par round on day two to improve six spots individually and finish in a tie for second place at +6 overall (79, 71).
- Tying with Rummel in second place was Cindy Koira, who carded the Vikes-low round of 77 in round one and improved four shots on day two to finish +6 overall (77, 73).
- Recording the largest improvement of any Vike on day two, Brynne Davies went from shooting 85 in round one to 74 on day two, climbing eight spots on the individual leaderboard to finish in a tie for eighth individually at +15 overall.
- Also tying for eighth individually was Fiona McCombe, who climbed three spots after a three-stroke improvement in round two for a +15 overall card (81, 78).
- Mya Rowan rounded out the Vikes' five, taking 11th individually at +17 overall following rounds of 80 and 81.
- As a team, the Vikes took finished first at +37 collectively for the two-day event, a 25-stroke victory.
The Battle at Laughlin Ranch
- Posting the top finish for the Vikes men's side was Aiden Craig-Steele, who shot 74 in round one, a Vikes round two low of 70, and 75 in round three to finish +3 overall and in a tie for 14th individually.
- Zach Ryujin opened the tournament with a Vikes-low 70 in round one, and followed with rounds of 75 and 78 to finish in a tie for 27th at +7 overall.
- Owen Croft and Maguire Lines tied for 80th individually, both finishing at +19 overall. Croft shot 76, 80, and 79 over the three-day event, while Lines went 80, 74, 81 over 54 holes.
- Daniel Kirby finished at +21 overall in a tie for 88th individually, shooting 84, 82, and a Vikes round three low of 71.
- As a team, the Vikes finished 12th overall at +38 collectively.Â
