VICTORIA – The University of Victoria men's rugby team opened its 2024 campaign with a 28-17 loss to the Pacific Pride, Sept. 7 at Wallace Field.

Pride take early lead
- The Pride scored in the 16th and 26th minutes to take a 14-0 lead over the Vikes.
Gamage puts the Vikes on the board
- In the 32nd minute, an offload from Morgan Di Nardo made it to the hands of Chris Gamage, who ran the ball in for the try to make the score 14-5.
Vikes take the lead out of halftime
- Adam Doane received the second half kickoff and began the offensive spark for the Vikes. Moving the ball to Ethan Smith then Lockhart MacGregor, MacGregor dove to touch the ball down next to the corner flag on the left side of the field to pull the Vikes within four, 14-10, in the 41st minute.
- A quick restart from the Vikes meant Ethan Smith was able to find space and make a run into the end zone for the try. After a convert by Angus Boyd-Porter, the Vikes went up, 17-14, in the 53rd minute.
Pride strike twice more to claim win
- A quick response try from the Pride in the 56th minute along with a final try in the 77th minute sealed the win for the visiting team, 28-17.
