VICTORIA – The University of Victoria women's field hockey team dominated the Canada West major awards, with
Libby Hogg earning 2025 Player of the Year,
Anais Chace Goalkeeper of the Year, and
Krista Thompson taking home Coach of the Year. Hogg and Chace were also recognized as Canada West All-Stars alongside teammates
Maeve Connorton and
Sadie Lee.
Player of the Year
Fifth-year defender Hogg proved once again why she's among the best in the country, leading the conference in goals (10) while tying teammate and Canada West All-Star
Sadie Lee. Relentless and composed, Hogg is as reliable on defence as she is lethal on attack. A five-time conference all-star, she earned her first senior national team cap this past summer and continues to showcase that prowess on and off the field.
"Every day is a consistent effort from Libby, from her rookie season until now in her sixth season. She's performing well on both ends of the field, and you don't have the type of performances she does without years of hard work and dedication. Libby is calm and composed under pressure, and we've seen that transfer to her game at the international level as well," said Thompson.
Goalkeeper of the Year
Goalkeeper of the Year, Chace, turned in another exceptional run, conceding just eight goals over the past two seasons. Her calm presence and sharp communication as the last line of defence have been foundational to the Vikes methodical style of play. With five shutouts in 2025–26, Chace has been integral in the Vikes success again this season.
"Anais has continued to grow and improve each year while showcasing consistent performances. This year she has made key saves at key points of the game, while conceding very few goals over the last two seasons," said Thompson.
Coach of the Year
Krista Thompson is in her third season as the head coach of the Vikes women's field hockey program, having been elevated to this position on January 20, 2023, after spending 26 years (1997-2022) as the assistant coach. During that time, she helped guide the Vikes to eight U SPORTS national championship titles and nine Canada West conference banners. Despite graduating six players last season, Thompson led the Vikes to a 5-1-2 record and her third consecutive Canada West title.
"Krista continues to set the standard for coaching excellence not only in our conference but across the country," said Nick Clark, director of varsity performance sport. "Her ability to develop players, foster team culture, and consistently keep the program competing at the highest level is a testament to her leadership and dedication."
Canada West All-Stars
Fourth-year midfielder Connorton has earned her fourth consecutive Canada West All-Star nod, having consistently anchored the Vikes midfield as a multi-talented and impactful playmaker.
This is the first conference all-star nod for second-year forward Lee. Having earned a spot on the U SPORTS All-Tournament team as a rookie in 2024, Lee tied the conference in scoring this season (10) and has proven to be an offensive threat, dangerous from anywhere on the field.
The Vikes, who are in search of their seventh consecutive national title, will now prepare for the U SPORTS Women's Field Hockey Championship taking place on Canada's east coast in Charlottetown, PEI, from October 31 to November 2.
