VICTORIA – University of Victoria women's field hockey players
Libby Hogg and
Maeve Connorton garnered U SPORTS All-Canadian honours, while Hogg also collected the Lizz Hoffman Player of the Year Award at the annual national awards banquet on October 29, in Prince Edward Island.
For the first time in her Vikes career, Hogg has been named the U SPORTS Player of the Year, sharing the award with Abby Warriner of Guelph University. The fifth-year defender proved why she's among the best in the country, leading the conference in points (10) this season, more than doubling her 2024 points total (4). In addition, Hogg helped the Vikes defence earn five shutouts in eight games and its seventh-consecutive Canada West conference title.
Relentless and composed, Hogg is as reliable on defence as she is lethal on attack. A five-time conference all-star, she earned her first senior national team cap this past summer and continues to showcase that prowess on and off the field.
This is the first All-Canadian nod for Connorton, who has earned Canada West All-Star in all four years of her Vikes career. This season, Connorton has consistently anchored the Vikes midfield as a multi-talented and impactful playmaker. Stats don't always tell the whole story, and that couldn't be truer than in Connorton's case, who brings countless intangibles to the game, consistently setting up her teammates and making difficult stops on defence.
The Vikes, who are in search of their seventh consecutive national title, are currently in Charlottetown, PEI, for the U SPORTS Women's Field Hockey Championship from October 30 to November 2.
