Vancouver, BC – The University of Victoria men's rugby team lost 42-33 to the University of British Columbia for the Wightman Boot on Oct. 4.
UBC opened the scoring with back-to-back tries
- The Thunderbirds opened the scoring with tries in the 6th and 16th minutes to take a 14-0 lead.
VIC respond with their first try
- Phoenix Moller opened the scoring for the Vikes, with the convert from Michael Ougthred, the pair cut UBC's lead to 14-7.
UBC extends their lead
- The Thunderbirds answered back with tries in the 22nd and 29th minutes to build their lead to 28-7.
Willey and the Vikes rally before the half
- Nicolas Willey began the comeback for the Vikes as he contributed two tries, one in the 33rd minute and another in the 40th, to lessen the Thunderbirds' lead to 28-19 heading into the half.
Vikes first to score in the second half
- Ryder Heaney-Corns scored his first try of the game as the Vikes narrowed closer, 28-26 UBC.
UBC answered back
- The Thunderbirds stopped the Vikes' momentum as they added a try to extend their lead to 35-26.
Vikes make a final push
- Alex Gamage once again cut the T-Birds' lead to two as he added a try to the Vikes' point column.
UBC scored to put it away
UBC added one last try in the 71
st minute to capture the victory.

The Vikes move to 2-2 on the season, while the Thunderbirds jump to 4-0-1.
The Vikes return to the pitch against Trinity Western University, Oct. 18, at Wallace Field.
