Victoria - The University of Victoria's Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated 105 exceptional varsity student-athletes at the 21st annual Vikes Honour Roll luncheon on Nov. 19, 2025, hosted in the Sngequ House.
The Honour Roll recognizes student-athletes who maintain at least a 7.0 or 80 per cent GPA while training and competing at the highest level of university sport. In addition, all U SPORTS-recognized student-athletes earned Academic All-Canadian status, receiving both a certificate and a congratulatory letter from Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada.
"Being named to the Vikes Honour Roll is more than recognition—it shows the leadership and example these student-athletes set every day. They prove that excellence goes beyond competition, balancing academics, athletics, and character across every sport and event. Their success reflects a culture of hard work, resilience, and support that defines what it means to be a Vike," said Jamie Garret, A/Associate Director, Sport Compliance and Student Support.
The Provost Award is presented to the student-athlete(s) with the highest overall GPA, and for the second year in a row, it resulted in a remarkable four-way tie. This year's honourees are
Jaden Dawson of women's field hockey, Rhys Patterson of men's rugby,
Monika Arcadi of women's cross country and track, and
Ben Seshadri of men's cross country and track. Each of these standout student-athletes earned an extraordinary 9.0 GPA while managing rigorous academic demands alongside the training and competition schedules of their respective sports.
Since 2007, 1521 student-athletes have been acknowledged for achieving the 80 per cent or higher milestone, and many have achieved the standard multiple times. In 2007-08, the inaugural group honoured had just 44 recipients, which has risen dramatically each year up to 105 in 2024-25. The increase is a testament to the bar that the Vikes continue to set for being top students and athletes.

Provost Elizabeth Croft presents Jaden Dawson and Monika Arcadi with the 2024 Provost Award winners
Jaden Dawson, women's field hockey
A fifth year student-athlete on the women's field hockey team,
Jaden Dawson is an exceptional leader. According to her coach,
Krista Thompson, she is a tremendously hard worker—whether she's training on her own during the summer, giving her all in practices and games, or showing her dedication in the classroom, she does it all with a smile. Dawson is kind, supportive of her teammates and coaches, and, as a team captain, she truly embodies what it means to be a Vikes student-athlete.
Monika Arcadi, women's cross country and trackÂ
A fifth year captain of the Vikes cross country and track team,
Monika Arcadi is both a leader and a role model. Her coach,
Hilary Stellingwerff, says she is continually impressed by Arcadi's ability to balance the demands of varsity athletics with academic excellence while also guiding the team as captain. Arcadi brings positivity, determination, and intention to everything she does—a combination that drives her success both in the classroom and on the track.
Ben Seshadri, men's cross country and trackÂ
The 2023 President's Cup winner, this is the second consecutive Provost Award forÂ
Ben Seshadri, whose name has become synonymous with precision and professionalism in academics and athletics. Seshadri approaches his studies and sport with a rare level of foresight and discipline. Known for his organized and proactive nature, he is a planner through and through, tackling challenges with a practical, cerebral mindset that has allowed him to thrive. Seshadri is currently completing a Master of Kinesiology at UVic while attending medical school at the University of Saskatchewan.Â
Rhys Patterson, men's rugby
Rhys Patterson graduated last spring from the faculty of education with a degree in kinesiology. Known for his work ethic and dedication, Patterson overcame significant injuries during his time as a Vike while maintaining his academic excellence. His achievements, including a perfect GPA two years in a row, are a testament to his drive to excel in all his undertakings. Now, continuing to pursue his passion for the human body, Patterson is working at Rebalance Victoria as a kineiologist.
