Victoria, BC – The University of Victoria men's rugby team lost to the Westshore RFC 21-13, Nov. 22 at Wallace Field.
Westshore broke through first
- In the 18th minute, Westshore opened the scoring with a breakaway try to take the first lead of the game. With a successful conversion, Westshore's early lead was 7-0.
Sandner nailed a pair of penalty goals
- Gareth Sandner executed a lengthy penalty goal kick to put the Vikes on the board for the first time. The three points cut the Westshore lead to four.
- Sandner blasted one through once more in the dying seconds of the first half. His second penalty goal put the Vikes within striking distance as Westshore went to halftime with a one-point lead.
Westshore came out of halftime with speed
- In the early minutes of the first half, Westshore added another try to their lead as they weaved through defenders. This score extended their lead to 14-6.
Westshore's 57th-minute try pushed the lead out further
- Westshore pushed their way down the field and over the try line for their third try of the game. With the conversion, Westshore now led 21-6.
Vikes added a late try to get within striking distance
- Jaxson Jones sprinted down the sideline and over the try line in the 80th minute as his score brought the Vikes within eight points.
The Vikes will return to action on Nov. 28 as they take on James Bay AA at Centennial Stadium.
