Vancouver, BC – The University of Victoria women's basketball team travelled to the mainland and defeated the University of British Columbia 66-53, Nov. 7 at War Memorial Gym.
The Vikes took a lead to the locker room at halftime.
- The three-point shooting was the story in the first half. The Vikes' defence was locked in as they held Thunderbirds' three-point shooting to 0% in the first quarter and 16.7% in the second quarter.
- The Vikes pulled away in the second quarter as their three-point shooting shot 57.1% pushing their halftime lead to 35-26.
Vikes' shooting stayed hot in the second half.
- On the back of Avery Geddes, the Vikes remained red-hot from beyond the arc. In the third quarter, they had their best shooting quarter of the season, shooting 70% from the field and 80% from three.
- The Vikes outscored the T-Birds 20-8 in the third quarter, creating a lead too big for a fourth quarter comeback.
Notables
- Avery Geddes made her presence known as the first-year guard scored a game and career high 24 points. Geddes' shooting from beyond the mark was on another level as she drained six of her eight three-point shots.
- Mimi Sigue set a new career high as she collected 17 rebounds in the Vikes' big win. Sigue's boards were vital as she corralled a staggering 10 offensive rebounds.
- With the win over the nationally ranked Thunderbirds, the Vikes improve to 3-2 on the season. This is the first loss of the Thunderbirds' season as they fall to 4-1.
The Vikes will return home to face the University of Regina on Nov. 14 at CARSA Performance Gym.
