Four gold medal performances highlight Canada West Championships

Saskatoon, SK – The University of Victoria's track and field team won four gold medals at the Canada West Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Saskatchewan, February 20 and 21. The women's team finished third in the team competition, while the men's team grabbed sixth. Individually, the Vikes secured three silvers and three bronzes along with their four golds.
 
Marisha Thompson displayed that she's one of the nation's best once again.
  • Marisha Thompson continued her stellar track season as she added a Canada West gold medal to her trophy case. Thompson dazzled in the women's 600m, defeating the field with her time of 1:33.56.
  • Marisha Thompson joined teammates Rory O'Brien, Stella McLeod, and Erin Owens to bring home yet another gold medal. These ladies' talents were on full display as they proved they're the best in conference, finishing with a time of 8:54.60 in the 4x800m relay. For winning their gold medal, O'Brien, McLeod, Owens, and Thompson were recognized as Canada West First Team All-Stars.
  • Thompson wrapped up her impressive weekend with a silver medal in the women's 1000m, posting a 2:50.79 and a bronze in the 1500m with a time of 4:28.22.
 
Christina Peet Williams grabbed her first gold.
  • Christina Peet Williams secured another gold for the Vikes as she put on an exceptional performance of both speed and pace. Christina outlasted her competition to finish first with a time of 9:53.25 and earned a selection to the Canada West First Team All-Stars.
 
Waller defeated a packed 1500m field for gold.
  • In the most popular event of the day, David Waller emerged as the best in the west, seizing the gold medal with his impressive 3:57.07. Waller's gold medal performance secured him recognition as a Canada West First Team All-Star.
 
Eybergen and Reimer added silver medal performances.
  • Madelyn Eybergen added to her illustrious career winnings as she added a Canada West silver medal with her second-place finish in the women's 1500m. Her time of 4:27.71 earned her a spot amongst the Canada West Second Team All-Stars.
  • Colette Reimer joined Peet Williams on the women's 3000m podium, securing second as she posted a 9:54.26. Reimer's strong finish secured her a Canada West Second Team All-Star selection.
 
Kuchar and Clements round out the Vikes' podium performances.
  • Jaxon Kuchar grabbed a spot on the podium with his strong race in the men's 1500m. Kuchar's 8:35.07 was enough to take home the bronze medal.
  • Isaac Clements soared high as he reached a height of 4.70m, winning him the bronze in the men's pole vault.
 
The Victoria Vikes will take their talents to the national stage as they will compete at the U SPORTS Championships on February 6 and 7, hosted by the University of Winnipeg.
