Celebrating success

Vikes women’s field hockey delivered another memorable season defined by resilience, belief, and shared commitment. With a roster blending youth and experience, the team began the year with a preseason retreat at Mt. Washington, using time away from campus to build trust and connection—foundations that proved critical once conference play intensified.

The final weekend of Canada West competition brought high drama with a U SPORTS berth on the line. After a loss to UBC on Saturday, the Vikes needed a draw on Sunday to qualify for nationals. Down two goals late, the team responded with composure and courage—Brontë Thurbide converted a penalty corner, and with the goalkeeper pulled, Amanda Adams scored the tying goal with under two minutes remaining. The 2–2 result secured the Vikes’ place at the 2025 U SPORTS Women’s Field Hockey Championship.

National silver

At nationals in Charlottetown, PEI, the Vikes faced elite competition from York, Dalhousie, and host UPEI. Competing on unfamiliar rubberized turf, the team showcased adaptability and teamwork, battling all the way to a silver medal finish and narrowly falling to York with less than three minutes remaining in the final.

Your investment in student-athletes

Donor support plays a vital role in this success. Contributions through the Vikes Championship Breakfast ensured every student-athlete received a scholarship, reducing financial pressure and allowing athletes to fully invest in their academic and athletic goals.

Looking ahead, donations from Vikes Giving Day are funding a preseason tour to Germany and the Netherlands, providing international competition and invaluable development opportunities. These experiences help student-athletes grow as competitors and teammates while proudly representing UVic.

From dramatic qualification moments to national podium finishes, your generosity fuels women’s field hockey—on the field and far beyond it.

“The Vikes Championship Breakfast has always meant a great deal to me and my teammates. It is an opportunity to connect with the people and community who support us and make what we do possible. Receiving scholarship funding has allowed me to attend school and fully focus on my academic responsibilities. It has also given me the freedom to train in the afternoons and compete on weekends without the added burden of financial stress. This support has been instrumental in helping me succeed both academically and athletically. I am extremely grateful to everyone who donated to our program. Your generosity leaves a lasting impact on every student-athlete.”
