The University of Victoria Vikes Varsity Council’s male Athlete of the Month is Vikes swimmer Eric Hedlin. 

Recently given the nod as the 2013 CIS Rookie of the Year, Hedlin proved his worth with a gold medal finish in the 1500-m freestyle at the 2013 CIS Swimming Championships, Feb. 21-23. 

The San Diego native swam to a time of 15:13.23, just shy of three seconds faster than fellow Vike Will Brothers, who came second at 15:16.68. 

Additionally, Hedlin earned a silver medal in the men’s 1500-m freestyle at the 2013 Canada West Swimming Championships, Jan. 25-27, with his time of 15:14.31.
