Second-year midfielder Amanda Kurianowicz of the women's field hockey team has been awarded the Original Joe's female athlete of the month award for September. Despite her team having only played two regular season matches leading up to the award, Kurianowicz's productivity appears in mid-season form. Through the women's undefeated pre-season tour in Boston, Kurianowicz was responsible for six of the 13 Vikes goals, including a four-goal-game in their final match versus Dartmouth College. She then carried that scoring touch into the women's team's Canada West opening weekend against the Calgary Dinos, where she netted a goal in each of their 6-0 and 2-0 victories. A product of Calgary, Alberta, Kurianowicz's rookie season highlight saw her scoring the lone Vikes goal in a 1-1 tie with the Calgary Dinos that would qualify them for a 31st CIS Championship appearance. Look for Kurianowicz's number six on the field as the women's field hockey team charges towards their first CIS Championship banner since 2008.
