Fifth-year Vikes women’s basketball forward Jessica Renfrew has been named January’s Athlete of the Month. Most notably, the senior hit a career-high 36 points in the Jan. 16 win over Winnipeg. The University of Victoria single-game scoring record is held by Carol Turney with 42 points, back in 1978 against Saskatchewan.
On Jan. 16-17 the Vikes swept both games against the then CIS No. 7-ranked Wesmen at McKinnon Gym.
 
Renfrew, a Victoria native, has started all 16 conference games to date and is ninth in conference scoring with 15.3 points per game. Renfrew was recently named Canada West Second Star of the Week and has been the team’s top scorer for eight of 16 games played.
